Horizontal pattern
The horizontal pattern is nearly omnidirectional. There is a small gain of a few of tenth of dB into the direction of the cage .

Vertical pattern
A simple monopole radiating vertically has a sharp null at the angle of 0°. Due to horizontally radiating antenna parts the null is filled up.
|
Gain
The gain of such an antenna is approximately 0 dB referred to a short vertical monopole. The slightly higher gain caused by the small directivity of the horizontal pattern is reduced by the filling up of the vertical pattern leading to a total gain of -0.03 dB. In general the gain of medium wave antennas are referred to a short vertical monopole.
